All Ritherdon enclosures, feeder pillars and cabinets are made from stainless steel and available in three different grades: 4003, 304 and 316 to suit different applications and locations.
Grades of Stainless Steel
We recommend using different grades of steel depending on where the cabinets and pillars will be installed. For inland locations, use our 4003 grade, which is always powder coated for additional durability, performance, and for a smarter look.
For harsher environments, such as coastal locations, we recommend using 304 and 316 grades. If you are placing the enclosure very close to the sea or in highly corrosive environments, we recommend the use of 316 marine grade stainless steel. Stainless steel is an iron alloy known for its durability and corrosion resistance properties. As an alloy, each grade of steel has different compositions, each with specific properties. Read more on the properties of stainless steel.
Powder Coated Finish
The three grades of steel we use for the cabinets and feeder pillars we make are all available in a powder-coated finish*. We offer standard paint colours to suit typical urban and rural environments. There is no extra cost for powder coating when you choose from these standard colours:
Black | RAL 9005 Gloss Black |
Dark Green | BS 4800 14 C40 Gloss Green |
Light Grey | BS 381C 631 Light Grey Gloss |
Dark Grey | BS 381C 632 Dark Grey Gloss |
Red | RAL 3020 Gloss Traffic Red |
Red powder coating is used to denote temporary installations, see examples of our red TBS60 and TBS300 cabinets, for temporary power connections.
*Our 4003 grade of stainless steel is always powder coated to provide the best performance and quality finish. High-quality powder coating to a minimum of 50 microns.
Natural Metal Finish
We provide a natural metal finish in our 304 and 316 grades of steel. It is a simple, bare metal look. If you are looking for an equivalent Ritherdon pillar or cabinet with a ‘galvanised look’, this is the finish you should opt for. When we first started making feeder pillars, we decided to depart from the traditional fabrication of thick galvanised zinc-coated, mild steel pillars. We chose stainless steel and set out to design and manufacture sleek, light yet robust, outdoor enclosures.
Other Colours Kept in Stock
We also keep white and brown in stock for our meter boxes, repair door and frames and Fireseals. Whilst white and brown is not your typical choice of colour for roadside cabinets and feeder pillars – if you do have the odd job, you’ll benefit from little to no extra cost! Here are the paint coders for reference:
White | RAL 9010 Satin White |
Brown | RAL 8007 Gloss Brown |
