Feeder Pillar

We believe that the Ritherdon & Co feeder pillar range was the first totally stainless steel, standard range supplied to the UK highways industry.  They are now certainly the most commonly-seen stainless feeder pillars on the streets around the UK (or maybe we just don't notice the others!).

It was our focus on manufacturing the best quality products that led us to decide not to bother making galvanized enclosures, when we could make better, more cost-effective ones out of stainless. 

Features and benefits of our stainless steel enclosures

Highly resistant to corrosion	Much longer life, giving you a lower total cost of ownership and reducing the carbon footprint of production and installation.
	Remain aesthetically pleasing - no rust.
	Removes the environmental impact of the galvanizing process.
Closer manufacturing tolerances	Better sealing against the weather and dust.
	Better-looking products (they might 'only be enclosures', but we think it matters!).
Powder coated (when required)	A much smoother finish than with galvanized products (including a broad choice of colours to suit the surroundings).
Thinner gauge metal possible*	Enclosures are lighter, making for easier and safer handling during installation, while maintaining integrity after minor collisions (see our pillar strength test).

*There is no need to add extra thickness purely to withstand the galvanizing process.

Design features

Fabrication

• Integral root and body and a detachable door.
• Manufactured from 2.0 mm thick stainless steel to ensure the maximum service life.
• Access for cable ducting is provided through the lower front section of the feeder pillar.
• Earth bonding of the door to the body (two M6 studs complete with nuts and washers) as standard.

Installation

• Base plate protrudes at both the front and sides to provide stability during installation.
• Rear edge of the base plate is welded flush with the rear panel of the pillar body to permit installation close to a wall.
• Suggested ground level is marked on the rear face of the feeder pillar.

Backboard

• All feeder pillars are supplied with a full width external grade plywood backboard for the fitting of electrical supply equipment.
• Alternative materials for the backboard can be included on request.

Security fixings

• To deter unauthorized entry and in the interest of hygiene the door is secured at the top with one stainless steel Allen screw, 25mm long.
• Standard Allen screw can be replaced by a Pin-Hex dome headed screw for extra security.
• Alternative Tri-Key cam-lock can be specified at no extra cost.

Electrical supply and fitting service

• Ritherdon and Company is able to provide a supply and fitting service for the electrical termination equipment. This service can include pre-wiring (wiring team).
