The Benefits of Stainless
The Ritherdon range of stainless steel enclosures gives you all the following features and benefits compared with galvanised mild steel products:
- Resistance to corrosion - stainless enclosures have a much longer life than galvanised mild steel, giving you a lower total cost of ownership
- Closer manufacturing tolerances - better sealing against the weather and dust
- Powder coated during manufacture when required - enhanced appearance and a choice of colours to suit your local environment
- Environmental benefits - stainless steel pillars and cabinets do not rust, they stay aesthetically pleasing as they don’t stain and they don’t need sacrificial protection which is harmful to the environment
- Stainless’s greater strength means that a thinner gauge can be used - enclosures are lighter, making for easier and safer handling during installation while maintaining integrity after minor collisions. See the results of our slightly unconventional stength test

Versatility
Our standard and special ranges of enclosures cover a wide variety of sizes and types.
They are typically used as feeder pillars and general electrical enclosures for traffic and street lighting applications, as well as to house traffic communication and data collection equipment.
Our experience in populating and
pre-wiring a wide variety of metering enclosures for Regional Electricity Companies and Utility Contractors can save you the lead time involved in sourcing and fitting internal components.
Getting best value
Over the life of a stainless steel enclosure, the cost of using stainless rather than galvanised mild steel is much lower when the costs of replacement are taken into account.
For example stainless steel feeder pillar will last at least twice as long as a galvanised mild steel pillar. Although a stainless steel product may cost slightly more than its galvanised counterpart, this cost is dwarfed by the typical reconnection charge that is required when the galvanised feeder pillar is replaced.
Recent feedback - particularly on our stand at the Traffex 2009 exhibition - indicated that our feeder pillars and service cabinets are actually cheaper than their galvanised equivalents - from some suppliers at least. Please
