Meter Box Repair - Door and Frames

Now best-sellers when it comes to repairing damaged glass fibre (GRP) meter boxes, Ritherdon units are designed to the dimensions specified in the Electricity Supply Industry standard ESI 12-3 (Issue 3). The doors and frames are typically fabricated from commercial grade stainless steel sheet, then powder painted white, and can easily be painted over should the house owner desire a different colour.

We supply all models in the range with screws and bushes for installation, and each unit comes complete with a long-reach, easy-to-handle plastic key. Installation can be completed in a matter of minutes using the choice of fixing holes provided.  See the demonstration movie at the bottom of the page.

The Ritherdon range of Doors and Frames are all fitted with the preferred soft-spring slam locks to facilitate closing the doors without the need to re-use the key.

Product Selection

When a GRP meter box has to be repaired, the first thing to decide is the method of fixing the replacement door and frame. If the wall around the damaged box is good quality then you may prefer a front fixing replacement door and frame, if not it may be the standard internal fixing that is more appropriate. It is very important to determine the size of the GRP box so that when you order the replacement door and frame, you are able to request the correct variant.

You will need the following information:

• The dimensions of the damaged GRP box at the wall. The width and height at the wall, and the depth from the wall should be all that you will require. If necessary, print off the data sheet " How to measure a meter box" before you go to measure the box.
• Is it a gas or electric meter box?
  • Select the  electric or gas link to show the table for selecting the correct variant.
• Select the type of box from the list in the table, compare the dimensions and choose from the available door and frames depending on your preference for standard or front fixing. If your dimensions do not appear in the table, please contact us.

Fitting the unit is very easy, simply put the unit in position and mark through the side plates or the front where the holes are to go. Remove the unit and drill the holes. Replace the unit, and using the fixings provided fasten the unit in position. Finally, seal the box to the wall using a suitable exterior grade seal.

Meter box repair using the R22 Gas housing is even easier.  Simply hook the top of the unit onto the backplate and click the bottom in place. Holes are provided for screwing the bottom to the backplate if necessary.
