Do you know where your goods are made?
You do with us.
Over the last couple of decades, it has become the norm to outsource manufacturing abroad where less regulation on employee protection and low wages has generally meant reduced costs for companies selling products into the UK and Europe. This often comes at a cost to the customer however and a Civitas report on ‘re-shoring’ highlights some of the pitfalls such as product quality tailing off and long lead times (Maintaining Quality, page 20, Bringing Manufacturing Back, Civitas 2014). By keeping our manufacturing at home we are able to maintain total control over the quality of the materials we use and how our products are made.
Ritherdon is based in Darwen, Lancashire and has been established for more than 120 years. The family business started with Percy Ritherdon, the current MD’s great-grandfather! We’ve always been a family run business and we’ve always manufactured all of our products in our own factory.
The company’s purpose is to create prosperity for as many as possible in a world-class manufacturing company.
We are always working to increase the technical content of our products. This is achieved by having an in-house design team, currently partnering with the University of Manchester in our KTP project, to have the best in class engineering and manufacturing our products in our own factory. We take pride in providing solutions for the industries we serve.
We constantly add new products to our offering and do so innovatively. We developed the FireSeal range to solve passive fire protection issues for our clients in the social housing industry. These fire rated access panels have all been rigorously tested to the appropriate EN fire resistance testing standards as recommended in the BS 9999: 2008 Code of Practice. We’ve recently expanded our Passive Fire Protection range with the R22 FireSeal and have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Security and Fire Excellence Awards.
Aiming for high quality, as a rule, all of our stainless steel products come with a 25-year guarantee, we are certified by the British Standards Institution for ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 in environmental management. Looking forward to providing our products to our EU neighbours, our products carry the CE Marking, conforming to European directives for our products. You’re welcome to peruse our reference documents on the Technical Information page.
True to our principles and our purpose of creating prosperity for all, long before the national living wage became a reality in our country Ritherdon have been paying more than the minimum wage for years and since 2013 we’re also a living wage employer as accredited by the Living Wage Foundation.
Our factory in Darwen is always open to visitors, so if you’d like to meet the team and see the manufacturing process in action, get in touch and we’ll gladly show you around.
